Dear Readers,
The scene is as terrifying as it
is unexpected: A group of tourists, out for a day of
winetasting in the back of a farm trailer on Carmel
Valley Road, are suddenly rammed by an irate driver
who apparently thought they were going too slow.
Mary Schley has our report.
Congressman-elect Jimmy Panetta is getting oriented
toward his new job, and among the issues he's
confronting is how to spend his
million-dollar-per-year budget for staff and travel.
Kelly Nix has the story.
The Carmel High School mock trial team won a
prestigious international competition Monday in New
York City. Chris Counts has that one.
If a jury summons has ever frightened you when it
came in the mail, Kelly Nix has the story of what
actually happens to you if you ignore it.
The Rancho CaƱada housing project is headed to the
board of supervisors after being OK'd by the
planning commission. The expansion of the MPCC
clubhouse has a greenlight now that a handful of
neighbors have apparently decided not to fight it
any longer. A Carmel Valley couple is off the hook
-- at least as far as county penalties are concerned
-- for doing a real ugly pruning job on some of
their trees. Several houses that will be built using
Eastwood water have been approved. The kitty that
went missing after the house fire on San Carlos
Street has been spotted several times, although not
yet reunited with its family. And my editorial
explains what was going on election night as
broadcasters went from assuredly predicting that
Hillary Clinton would be the winner, to declaring
Donald Trump the president-elect.
As always, I am available to respond to questions,
comments or concerns, and to offer advice about how
best to read our newspaper on your computer,
smartphone or iPad.
