Dear Readers, A poll of Pine Cone readers shows that Jason Burnett has built a 2-to-1 lead for mayor over Rich Pepe in the April 10 election, and that Ken Talmage and Victoria Beach are solidly ahead for city council. Meanwhile, there's big competition between Bob Profeta and Tom Leverone for the third spot. Mary Schley reports the details, including a very surprising revelation about Pepe's history of voting. A Pebble Beach property owner was facing huge fines from the coastal commission over a supposed delay in ripping out a private mini golf course in his front yard -- at least, until a Monterey County judge put a stop to the nonsense Wednesday. I have a report from the courtroom, and an editorial. There was a dramatic scene in yet another courtroom Friday when a woman reacted hysterically to being convicted of poaching snails in Pacific Grove. Kelly Nix has that story. A rash of home break-ins is leaving Carmel police searching for leads. The Carmel River broke through the lagoon sandbar on its own Sunday, barely averting a flooding situation in the adjacent neighborhood. The city's 2012-2013 budget shows the possibility of major deficits. We have a special section you won't want to miss, "In Your Dreams," about some of the Monterey Peninsula's most beautiful homes and gardens.
