Police log: Salesman eludes jewel thieves

HERE’S A look at some of the significant calls logged by the Carmel-by-the-Sea Police Department, the Carmel Fire Department and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office last week. This week’s log was compiled by Mary Brownfield.
SUNDAY, MARCH 1
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Responded to a medical emergency on Torres Street with Carmel Fire/ambulance to a report of a possible overdose with prescription medications. Subject was breathing but unconscious. Subject transported to CHOMP.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A citizen walking to church on Dolores Street was attacked from behind, and her purse was taken forcibly from her shoulder. The citizen was thrown to the ground in the process, and received minor injuries to her left forearm and the left side of her forehead. Fire and medical responded, treated her injuries and transported the female to CHOMP.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A citizen on Camino Real called 911 complaining she had ingested an unknown amount of marijuana and was suffering from adverse effects from the drug. She was transported to CHOMP by ambulance.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance were dispatched to the Mission for a male in his 90s with syncope [fainting]. Patient transported to CHOMP.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance was dispatched to a residence on Rio Road for a male in his 70s with ALOC [altered level of consciousness]. Patient transported to CHOMP.
Carmel area: Victim reported a battery.
Carmel area: Mother and her juvenile daughter had an incident.
MONDAY, MARCH 2
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance dispatched to Highway 1 and Carpenter Street for a reported vehicle accident. No Incident found on arrival at address.
Carmel area: Suspect wrapped his arm around a woman’s neck and attempted to keep her inside the vehicle after a verbal argument between the two. He was stopped at Carpenter Street and Highway 1 and arrested.
Carmel Valley: Past-tense prowling, with the suspect removing the bulb from a motion-detector-type flood lamp, going through an unlocked vehicle and spreading popcorn on the ground at the scene. Victim believes his mail from the Saturday delivery was taken too. Case suspended due to no leads.
Pebble Beach: Victim on Oxen Trail confronted a stranger on her neighbor’s driveway. Victim decided to report the incident since her neighbor’s home is currently unoccupied. Per victim, there were no signs of forcible entry into the residence.
Carmel Valley: Ongoing harassment by computer and phone. Case continues.
Pacific Grove: A 49-year-old Pebble Beach resident turned himself in to Seaside police after a $300,000 arrest warrant was issued for his involvement in a forcible rape reported to Pacific Grove police in April 2008. The case was investigated by Pacific Grove Police detectives and filed with the district attorney’s office following the examination and analysis of related forensic evidence. The suspect posted his bail and was released from custody pending his arraignment.
TUESDAY, MARCH 3
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Person reported hitting a vehicle as another vehicle was leaving the area. The other party did not stay to exchange information. For documentation purposes.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Property turned over for destruction at the Junipero Street police station.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance dispatched to a Guadalupe Street residence for a female in her 80s experiencing difficulty swallowing. Provided basic life support. Firefighters assisted with patient assessment, diagnostics, oxygen administration, packaging and gathering information. Patient transported to CHOMP.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance dispatched to a residence on Lasuen Drive for a female in her 90s with near syncope and general weakness. Patient transported to CHOMP by AMR.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Person lost a purse at a business on Ocean Avenue. Purse returned to owner.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance dispatched to a hotel on Junipero Street for a male in his 80s experiencing head and neck pain, and an abrasion to his right knee. This occurred secondary to his trying to take the car keys away from his wife. Transported person to CHOMP
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance dispatched to Outlook Drive for a female with leg weakness and needing assistance getting up. Upon arrival, Cal Fire medic was found on scene with a patient who was refusing transport to CHOMP. With all risks explained, patient refused and signed the medical release.
Carmel Valley: Welfare check on a resident at a Carmel Valley Road address. All OK.
Carmel area: Attempted grand theft via lottery scam and wire transfer that resulted in the victim recalling the wire transfer and subsequently receiving threats. Suspects may be from Florida or out of the country. Case continues.
THURSDAY, MARCH 5
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance dispatched to a residential complex on Mission Street between Fifth and Sixth for a smoke/odor investigation. Crew found a small leak in the stove in one of the units, shut down the system and contacted the building manager to inform them of the leak.
