Police log: 42 years at home, and now this!

HERE’S A look at the significant calls logged last week by the Carmel-by-the-Sea police and fire departments and by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 1
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance crew responded to a walk-in medical emergency at the fire station on Sixth Avenue for a female patient who had sustained a three-quarter-inch laceration to the left arm. Police also responded and determined she was intoxicated and had self-inflicted the knife wound to her arm. She chose to be transported to CHOMP for treatment and evaluation.
Big Sur: Person reported her purse was taken from her vehicle on Nov. 7 while parked at the 18-mile marker of Highway 1. The vehicle was locked; however, the sun roof was left open. Loss of purse and contents estimated at $859.
Big Sur: Burglary of job box overnight last Tuesday or Wednesday. Dirt compaction tool and pipe caps taken, valued at $6,000. No leads or suspects. Case suspended.
Carmel area: Citizen contacted the sheriff’s office for restraining order information and where to obtain one. No crime existed at this time.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2
Carmel-by-the-Sea: An employee at an Ocean Avenue jewelers turned over a wallet that was found on the sidewalk in front of the business. The employee did not know the name of the person who turned in the wallet and did not know the owner of the wallet. While going through the wallet, police were able to locate a phone number for the owner. The owner of the wallet was contacted, and she subsequently came to the station to pick up her wallet.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Person reported a gardener on 10th Avenue was using a gas leaf blower. The gardener was contacted and advised about the city ordinance concerning leaf blowers. The business owner was contacted as well, and was warned that another complaint could result in a citation.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A traffic stop was conducted on Ocean Avenue, and the driver, a 27-year-old male, was found to have a suspended license. The passenger in the vehicle was found to have an out-of-county warrant and was taken into custody. The driver was cited and released. The vehicle was towed and stored by Carmel Towing.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance crew responded to a walk-in medical at the fire station for a female in her 70s who had suffered a fall at a gas station on San Carlos Street and was suffering head, neck and knee pain. Patient arrived by POV [privately owned vehicle] to the fire station, where she was placed in a full c-spine and transported to CHOMP.
Carmel area: Complaint of illegal overnight camping.
Carmel area: Report of suspicious person who is frequenting open houses and real estate offices, talking strangely but no threats made. Subject contacted and asked not to return unless with lawful business, and without uttering strange statements that are bothering some agents. Case closed.
Carmel Valley: A male Carmel Valley resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and violating his probation.
Carmel Valley: A Carmel Valley couple requested documentation of possible drug activity involving their adult daughter. Daughter lives at home but was not there when deputies arrived.
Carmel Valley: Deputy was dispatched to the community center in Carmel Valley Village concerning a theft report. Deputies responded and kept the peace concerning a dispute between members of a homeowners association. They were directed to seek legal counsel concerning their civil issue.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Officer responded to a report of two barking dogs at a residence on San Carlos Street. The owner was not at the residence, and during the time of the officer’s surveillance, continuous and frequently repeated barks were heard. The person who reported the barking was contacted. The dog owner was also contacted and warned.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Victim reported the loss of her watch. The watch may have been lost at or near the Sunset Center parking lot or near a friend’s residence located at Monte Verde and 10th Avenue on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at approximately 1740 hours.
Carmel Valley: Resident on El Caminito reported a verbal argument with her husband.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A 32-year-old female entered a bank on San Carlos Street and attempted to cash a stolen check. Her suspected partner, a 40-year-old male, was also arrested in connection with the crime.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance responded to a residence on Forest Avenue for a medical emergency dispatched from Life Line, but the occupant accidentally activated the Life Line button.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance dispatched to a residence on Dolores for a male in his 60s with chest pain. Patient transported to CHOMP.
Carmel area: Past-tense report of battery, threats, and counter claim of the victim having assaulted a gardener with a brick (non-injury). Case continues.
Carmel area: A resident of the Carmel Views area reported sighting a mountain lion. Area check was made and sighting confirmed. California Fish and Game was notified, and an automated telephonic message was issued for the area.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A 51-year-old female driver and registered owner of a vehicle was stopped on Camino del Monte for multiple vehicle violations. Displayed registration tab on the rear plate was determined to be fraudulent. Driver cited, and the vehicle was then towed.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Female came to the department to report her son missing. During an area search for the juvenile, he returned home.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance dispatched to Highway 1 near Monastery Beach for a person complaining of foot/ankle pain. Upon arrival at Ribera Road and Highway 1 patient declined assistance and decided to take county transit to the hospital. Engine canceled; ambulance cleared of call.
Big Sur: A purse found on Highway 1 near Hurricane Point was turned in to lost and found.
Pebble Beach: Victim reported losing a wedding ring valued at $7,500 at the Beach and Tennis Club in Pebble Beach.
Carmel Valley: Victim in the 39000 block of East Carmel Valley Road reported the theft of his generator.
Carmel Valley: Subject reported a suspicious person parked in the parking lot.
Carmel Valley: Resident reported finding methamphetamine in his 19-year-old daughter’s bedroom. No prosecution wanted.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Pager found at Carmel Beach in the area of Del Mar.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A 17-year-old juvenile was contacted on a traffic stop on Lasuen and found to be in possession of marijuana and tobacco products. Citation issued and juvenile released at the scene.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance dispatched to Junipero for a person in distress. Units assisted a physically disabled person.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance dispatched to Junipero and Seventh for a smoke investigation. Investigated and provided information.
Pebble Beach: Subjects trespassed onto Spanish Bay Beach parking lot after it was closed. Subjects admonished; prosecution declined.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A 25-year-old male subject was stopped on Junipero Street and contacted for excessive speed. Driver found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI. Subject transported to MPD and later released on a citation. Vehicle towed.
Carmel area: Serra Avenue resident wanted to report that while she was home, someone managed to walk by her unseen and take her purse out of her bedroom.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 8
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Cell phone found on Lincoln Street.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Report of extortion by threat on Lopez Street.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Dog vs. human on Lincoln Street. Victim approached dog suddenly and got nipped on back leg when she turned around.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Two dogs were found wandering in the residential area of sheriff’s jurisdiction on High Meadows Drive. Person did not know where to bring the animals, so she turned them in to Carmel P.D. for safekeeping. Dogs turned over to Monterey County Animal Services, which returned them to the owner.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A 22-year-old male subject was stopped on Junipero for a moving violation and found to have a suspended license. Subject was cited, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Fire engine and ambulance responded to a residence on Guadalupe Street for a lockout. Occupant/owner had traveled back from out of town and brought the wrong set of keys and was unable to get into the residence. As the occupant did ot want crews to force entry, owner elected to stay in a hotel for the evening.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Ambulance responded Code 2 for a possible medical aid on Rio Road. Located a male in his 90s complaining of ischial pain [hip pain] who was sitting up in a chair, alert and oriented. Patient was treated per Monterey County protocol.
Carmel Valley: Resident reported the fence of his new residence under construction was graffiti’d. This occurred between 1400 hours on Dec. 5 and 0900 hours on Dec. 6. No suspects.
Carmel Valley: A Carmel Valley couple called 911 within minutes of each other to complain about one another’s conduct during their divorce. Although the couple resided together, the male had leased another house and was upset about his wife being at the property without his permission. She was upset that he had placed some of their property in the leased house. Informational only.
Pebble Beach: Suspect fled from the taxi at Congress Road and Forest Lodge Road without paying the fare.
Carmel Valley: Person reported a bridge on the property of the business was graffiti’d between 1400 hours on Dec. 5 and 0900 hours on Dec. 6. Damage estimated at $400. No suspects.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A runaway juvenile was spotted in the area of Junipero and Sixth. Units responded to the market and found the juvenile. She was transported to Marina P.D. for parental pickup.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: While on patrol, officer observed a street sign with one side completely spray painted red. No other markings noted and no evidence located. Information forwarded to public works.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: A male subject, 40, was stopped on Carpenter Street for a mechanical violation and found to have a suspended license. Subject was cited and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Carmel Valley: Victim reported his vehicle was vandalized while parked at his place of employment on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Carmel area: Male reported finding the mailboxes for his office building open on Sunday, Dec. 7, with no mail inside.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Vehicle was observed backing into a parked vehicle on Lincoln Street at 0028 hours, and the 42-year-old male driver was found to be DUI.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Female subject tripped on curb at southwest San Carlos at Fifth and struck her head on the brick planter box in front of the camera store.
Carmel-by-the-Sea: At 2326 hours, ambulance was dispatched to a Carmel Knolls Drive residence for a female with a severe headache. Patient transported Code 2 to CHOMP at 2345 hours.
Carmel area: Resident reported receiving two pieces of mail for an unknown male at her address. She has lived at this residence for 42 years and does not know who this person is or why he used her address.
