Big storm blocks roads, brings power outages, flooding

A monster storm that swept onshore Friday evening disrupted nearly every aspect of life in the Monterey Peninsula last weekend.

Winds that exceeded 60 mph were accompanied by heavy rains and a strong storm surge along the coast.

Hundreds of trees were brought down. Homes along the Carmel River Lagoon were flooded. Wave-driven boulders blocked Scenic Road on Carmel Point. And power was cut for nearly everyone for at least a few hours. While life returned to normal for most residents and businesses by early this week, many homes were still without electricity, cable TV and internet service Tuesday afternoon.

We will have a complete report in the Jan. 11 Pine Cone.
